The Key to Happiness, Long Life, Riches, Honor, AND Peace - Read Below 5/15/2008
Proverbs 3: 13-17 (New Life Translation)
Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gets understanding. For it is better than getting silver and fine gold. She is worth more than stones of great worth. Nothing you can wish for compares with her. Long life is in her right hand. Riches and honors are in her left hand. Her ways are pleasing, and all her paths are peace.
Imagine that. Wisdom brings long life, riches, and to top it all off - peace and happiness. What else could a person ask for? Solomon wrote these verses and he was a man who knew much about wisdom (so we should probably pay attention). We read his story in 1 Kings 3 when the Lord comes to him in a dream and gives him one wish. Of all the things available to him, he asks God to grant him an "understanding heart" (or wisdom). Looking more closely, we see exactly why Solomon was able to ask for wisdom in the first place: he was humble.
We read in 1 Kings 3:7-8:
You have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child. I do not know how to start or finish. Your servant is among Your people which You have chosen. There are many people. There are too many people to number.
Solomon was a King of nations, but yet, he had come to a state where he knew he could not do it on his own. So he simply asked God for wisdom and God was pleased.
Be humble. Ask God for wisdom. You will be blessed.
